On Saturday, the #MarchForOurLives rally will draw millions of demonstrators demanding gun control to the streets of DC, New York, and around the world.
The movement was founded after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting last month and has since turned into a rallying cry for students and gun violence survivors across the country.
“I would say to the lawmakers that are on Capitol Hill, especially the ones supported by the NRA, get your résumé ready because you aren’t going to be in office for much longer,” David Hogg, one of the founders of the #MarchForOurLives movement, told Cheddar a day before the nationwide protest.
“We’re looking for our leaders to see that there are millions of Americans that are for common sense gun laws,” said Maisie Devine, a survivor of last year’s shooting in Las Vegas who will be attending Saturday’s rally.
“We’re guaranteed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and right now [lawmakers] are not doing their jobs, they are not protecting us.”
It seems like their calls for policy changes are being heard.
On Friday, the Department of Justice announced a proposed amendment to current regulations that would effectively ban bump stocks under federal law.
Cheddar will be in New York and DC covering the #MarchForOurLives lives Saturday from 10 am ET until 3 pm ET.
