The way restaurant workers get paid could be changing. The Department of Labor has proposed making tip-pooling legal again. Whitney Filloon, Senior Reporter at EATER, explains what the proposal would mean for the restaurant industry. Currently, waiters have the rights to the tips they are given during service. Tip-pooling would allow restaurant owners to divide up the tips however they see fit. Filloon says Democrats have expressed opposition to the proposal, but Republicans have largely stayed silent. The Department of Labor has until the beginning of April to make a decision.
