This SXSW "Dramedy" Kicking it Back to "Summer of '03"
Actors Paul Scheer and Joey King are forced to relive the summer of 2003 in their latest film.
King, now 18, was only four years old at the time, but she says it was a “stand-out year” for everybody.
It “was a time of layering your tank tops and weird music,” she told Cheddar.
Scheer and King play a father and daughter in “Summer of ’03,” which premiered at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Tex., this week. Inspired by true events, the “dramedy” tells the story of a family sent into turmoil after a grandmother unveils family secrets on her deathbed.
Scheer told Cheddar the movie does a good job of exemplifying family chemistry.
“I think we all have these relatives that are troublemakers,” he said. “When you get to a certain age, that filter of what you should say and shouldn’t say is gone.”
