*By Christian Smith* There is no shortage of avocados heading into Super Bowl weekend says Alvaro Luque, President of Avocados From Mexico. "First of all, there is no shortage ー it's 100 percent the contrary," Luque said in an interview on Cheddar Friday. "Last week we had a record week ー we imported more than 73 million pounds of avocados." In the past few weeks, a number of publications released [stories](https://www.delish.com/food-news/a25858440/mexican-fuel-avocado-shortage-super-bowl/) saying that the price of your Super Bowl party guacamole may jump due to an avocado shortage. However, Luque said that the avocado growers his organization represents in both Mexico and the U.S. expect to import 230 million pounds of avocados ahead of the Super Bowl, which he said was a record amount. In addition to supplying millions with fresh avocados, Avocados From Mexico is preparing to release its fifth annual Super Bowl commercial. This year's ad stars Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth. In a year when many companies are backing away from Super Bowl spots, Luque said he believes the pricey ads are undervalued. "Yes, the price tag is high, but at the end, if you see this as a whole campaign, not a single 30-second ad, it's incredible," Luque said.
