Students Turning to Social In the Wake of School Shootings
In the wake of the Douglas School shooting students have been leading conversations and movements around the country. Many of those students are turning towards platforms like "Islands," to start conversations and share stories.
Greg Isenberg is the CEO and Founder of Islands. He joins Cheddar to explain how the students at the 15 schools where it is available are using Islands to communicate in the wake of the most recent school shooting.
Groups are interested in communicating about the shooting and about their personal opinions and beliefs. Isenberg notes that he was impressed by the level of engagement and level of civil engagement.

A year after the r/WallStreetBets community on Reddit drove GameStop and other meme stocks to unprecedented heights, the subreddit seems to be losing its luster among retail investors. Caitlin McCabe, markets and retail trading reporter from The Wall Street Journal, joined Cheddar to talk about the waning popularity of the group “Users are going on to find the next GameStop, and instead, they're seeing many of the new users who have joined the subreddit still talking about GameStop and AMC," McCabe noted. Tech titan Microsoft reported its second fiscal quarter of 2022 earnings on Tuesday, its first earnings report since announcing its plans to acquire gaming company Activision Blizzard in a multibillion dollar deal.
