Streetwear Takes on Luxury Brands in New Exhibition
It wasn't long ago that the worlds of streetwear and luxury fashion were mortal enemies. Fine artist and fashion designer PEL joins Cheddar to discuss his upcoming exhibition "Luxurious Villain." The project explores the relationship between fashion's haves and have-nots and debuts this Spring.
PEL explains how he's borrowing from the sneaker world in planning the launch of "Luxurious Villains." He'll announce the time and location of the exhibition on Instagram, leveraging his social media following to build up hype. The installation is taking place in France, New York, Miami, and Chicago.
PEL walks us through the history of collaboration between the streetwear and luxury worlds. He also explains why he decided to portray the brands as rival gangs in his work. The artist just completed a project where he reinvented popular hip-hop songs as visual works of art.
It's About Time: Help Stop the Clock on Meningitis is a campaign calling on parents to seriously consider the meningitis vaccine for their pre-teens and teens. Advocate and actor Tiffani Thiessen joined Cheddar News to talk about her partnership with the campaign. "I think we're so honed in on our kids getting their vaccinations from baby to like year five or six, and then we forget sometimes that there's vaccinations that need to happen when there are older,” she said. The "Saved by the Bell" star also discussed the upcoming third season of her comedy clip show "Deliciousness."

Nigel Eccles, the CEO of Vault, and singer-songwriter Pip joined Cheddar News to break down how the new platform works and why it's different from other blockchain concepts. "The way we've built it is we use the NFTs as keys that unlock the vault, and it's only the people who have those keys can actually see the contents of the vault," said Eccles. Pip added that he felt "inspired" to help with a new way of doing things in the music industry.

Cheddar News celebrated with Steven Klein, the owner of Dough Doughnuts in New York City, who joined us with some delicious samples from hibiscus flavored to ube cheesecake. "It's a fun fest that people love doughnuts, and it's a way of celebrating doughnuts that people just want to try, and they want to try with their friends, their offices, their parties, their groups," said Klein. "So we get inundated in all our stores with lines of people coming to buy multiple doughnuts to celebrate the day."
