Sophie Bushwick, senior editor for Popular Science, discusses the Trump administration's recent announcement to scale back the size of two national monuments in Utah, which are home to over 400 research sites employing 2,000 scientists. The administration will scale back the size of Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bear's End. Scientists are suing to reverse the decision because of the disruption it will cause in paleontology and other scientific research endeavors. We discuss Patagonia and R.E.I.'s opposition to the decision and whether a compromise can be made between the government and researchers.
