As the Senate rushes to vote the bill through, some Republicans are still pushing back on the lack of a plan to safeguard the deficit. The Joint Committee on Taxation says the Senate bill will add $1 trillion to the deficit over a decade.
In addition, Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin met with President Trump to express his concerns about pass-through entities. He's now expected to vote "yes" on the bill. The Republicans hope to have a version of the bill on President Trump's desk next week.
A former organizer of the far-right Proud Boys extremist group was sentenced on Thursday to 17 years in prison for spearheading an attack on the U.S. Capitol to prevent the peaceful transfer of power from Donald Trump to Joe Biden after the 2020 presidential election.
Former President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty and waived arraignment in the case accusing him and others of illegally trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.
