Pulse Labs went through the original Alexa Accelerator and raised their initial $120,000 through that experience. Now, the tech company has raised $2.5 million as they continue their mission to make voice assistants across the board. Abhishek Suthan is the CEO of Pulse Labs. Suthan joins Cheddar to explain how the tech company is bringing a unique and genuine voice experience to various voice assistant apps. Pulse Labs works closely with brands because companies have realized that having a "voice strategy" is an important move for the future. Over the past month, Pulse Labs has helped over 20 brands launch on the Amazon Alexa app. When asked how much it costs for a brand to have a voice strategy, Suthan says that the average is around a couple hundred thousand dollars.

Small grocers and convenience stores feel an impact as customers go without SNAP benefits
Some small grocery stores and neighborhood convenience stores are eager for the U.S. government shutdown to end and for their customers to start receiving federal food aid again. Late last month, the Trump administration froze funding for the SNAP benefits that about 42 million Americans use to buy groceries. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says about 74% of the assistance was spent last year at superstores like Walmart and supermarkets like Kroger. Around 14% went to smaller stores that are more accessible to SNAP beneficiaries. A former director of the United Nations World Food Program says SNAP is not only a social safety net for families but a local economic engine that supports neighborhood businesses.
