Philly Rapper Freeway Pitches LeBron James on His City
*By Max Godnick*
The Philadelphia rapper and die-hard 76ers fan Freeway wants LeBron James to take his talents to the City of Brotherly Love.
"I don't know what it's going to take, but we need to make it happen," Freeway said Tuesday in an interview with Cheddar.
Though his [prediction](https://revolt.tv/stories/2018/05/03/freeway-rejoices-meek-mills-release-predicts-championship-76ers-070043767d) that his hometown team would win the NBA championship failed to come true, and James's Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Golden State Warriors in the finals, Freeway said the future could be bright for player and team if they joined forces.
"It would be amazing for the city," said Freeway. "We have so much young talent on the team and I think LeBron could really come over there and shape it and make it happen."
James can become a free agent at the end of the month if he chooses to opt out of his current contract with Cleveland. According to the odds-making site [Bovada] (https://www.si.com/nba/2018/06/11/lebron-james-free-agency-odds-lakers-76ers-rockets-cavs-knicks), the Los Angeles Lakers have the best shot at landing James, with the Sixers close behind.
Freeway has been vocal proponent of all sorts of causes dear to his city. He supported fellow Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill's release from prison in April after almost five months of a two-to-four year sentence for violating his probation. Freeway said he hopes his friend's ordeal can help in reforming the criminal justice system.
"You see what Meek went through and he's a millionaire and you see how long it took him to get some justice and get out," said Freeway. "So imagine a person that doesn't have anything."

Retired gymnast Nia Dennis went viral last year after a video of her gymnastics floor routine highlighting Black excellence gained traction on social media. Apple TV+ is in serious talks for the rights to stream MLB games next season, the first foray into sports content for the platform, according to the New York Post. Lee Berke, president and CEO of LHB Sports, sat down with Cheddar to discuss how such a deal might impact the tech giant and the sports content industry. "Quite often with new media platforms one of the quickest ways to create and implement a programming strategy — and actually one of the most expensive ways — is to offer up sports content," Berke noted. "So, with this package available, it puts Apple literally in the game and gives them an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in offering up a major league sport."

COVID-19 continues to impact the world of sports, and most significantly, the NHL. The world's premier hockey league has postponed a total of 104 games so far this season, and a spike in omicron infections has led to a surge in postponements in recent weeks. This comes after the NHL went dark for six days in December because of a COVID-19 outbreak, and after the league decided not to have its players participate in the 2022 Beijing Olympics so it can use the time to reschedule postponed games. Yahoo Sports NHL reporter Justin Cuthbert joined Cheddar News' Closing Bell to discuss.
