As we head into Oscar weekend, Oscar nominated sound editor Julian Slater sits down with Alyssa Julya Smith to explain the biggest difference between the sound editing and sound mixing categories, as well a what goes into Oscar-winning sound in a film.
He explains that the biggest difference between the two categories is that sound editing is placing the sound in the film, and sound mixing is making sure it all flows together, but does admit that the lines are a little blurred now because of technology.
Slater has been nominated for the film "Baby Driver," and explains how the viewer is taken on a sonic journey through the main character, Baby. The sound and music is predominately inside the car, so mixing with outside noises and sounds took quite a bit of massaging.
