COVID-19: LATEST DEVELOPMENTS: Disney World reopened to the public over the weekend, just as its home state of Florida recorded 15,000 new coronavirus cases -- smashing the daily record reported by any state since the pandemic began. At the same time, the White House is now trying to discredit Dr. Fauci, giving reporters a list of things that the country’s top infectious disease expert was wrong about in the early days of the virus’ spread. NBC NEWS

@JaredLogan:oh my god Disney World was great today. The lines were like half as long as usual. Only complaint: have they changed their food? Couldn't taste anything!

ROGER STONE CLEMENCY: President Trump commuted the 40-month prison sentence of his longtime friend and associate Roger Stone late on Friday, enraging Democrats -- and even some Republicans -- who called it a clear abuse of power and cronyism. Stone was found guilty of seven felonies, including witness tampering and lying to the FBI, as part of the Mueller investigation into Russian election interference. AXIOS

NAVY SHIP FIRE: Seventeen U.S. sailors and 4 civilians were injured after a fire and explosion on board a ship at the naval base in San Diego. It’s unclear what sparked the fire, which tore through the USS Bonhomme Richard as it was undergoing maintenance in port. All the crew are accounted for. CNN
VIOLENT WEEKEND: It was another violent summer weekend across the country. Two police officers in McAllen, Tex. were ambushed and killed when they responded to a domestic disturbance. In NYC, there were 15 shootings over a 15-hour period -- more in one day than the same week last year. Milwaukee is on pace to break its murder record, set during the Jeffrey Dahmer killing spree. In addition to calls for reform, police departments around the country are facing budget cuts due to the pandemic. USA TODAY

TAX DEADLINE THIS WEEK: The deadline to file your 2019 tax returns is this Wednesday -- for real this time. The Treasury Dept. is issuing no more blanket extensions, though you can still request a personal extension until Oct. 15. If you’re expecting a refund, be patient. The IRS is warning that it’s facing a huge backlog because of reduced staffing and the extra work it took to process millions of stimulus payments. CNET
