Many thought the ceremony would be ore about politics than the actual films, but Hollywood's elite put their political leanings aside to celebrate the films. "The Shape of Water," which was one of the frontrunners of the night, took home best picture and director Guillermo del Toro also won best director for the film. Verhoeven also talks about Frances McDormand winning best actress for her role in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." McDormand had the most rousing - and political - speech of the night. When she took the stage to give her acceptance speech, the actress made sure to honor all the women who were nominated. She asked - with the help of Meryl Streep - for all the women to stand up, regardless of their category, and be honored for their work.
Simpson’s gridiron legacy was forever overshadowed by the 1994 knife slayings of Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. A criminal court jury found him not guilty of murder, but a separate civil trial jury found him liable.
