The L.A. Auto Show is about to kick off and will put the latest car technologies front and center. Cheddar got an early look at Lincoln's brand new 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. Our own Alyssa Julya Smith was with Robert Parker, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Lincoln Motor Company, to chat about some of the innovation behind the new SUV.
Parker says SUVs are one of the hottest segments. He gives us a first-hand look at some of the new features. The car has wireless charging, and says goodbye to the traditional gear stick.
The Lincoln director also fills us in on the technologies that add an extra layer of safety, such as lane centering. The radar-based cruise control will monitor where you are on the highway, and pre-condition the brakes if it senses the driver is getting off-track. The car even has a feature called evasive steering, which pre-conditions steering away from danger if the driver does not take control.
The Drone Racing League kicked off its 2021-2022 world championship season this week. Spanning across 14 different locations over the course of the year, 12 of the world's best drone pilots will be racing against each other to bring home the title. Drone racing has grown in popularity over the past year, with the Drone Racing League seeing an uptick of nearly 200 percent average viewership, 90 percent in virtual drone racing participation and 60 percent fanbase growth over social media. Rachel Jacobson, President of the Drone Racing League, discusses the future of the sport and why she thinks drone racing will soon be on par with traditional sports.
Electric vehicle charging company Wallbox goes public via a SPAC on the NYSE under the ticker symbol WBX.

The parcel delivery industry is getting more competitive as more companies enter the space with climate change in mind. Carl-Magnus Norden, founder and executive chairman at Volta Trucks, joined Cheddar to talk about electrifying delivery vehicles as well as the startup’s $44 million funding round. Despite ongoing driver shortages, he noted that he didn't see autonomous delivery being available in city settings within the next five years.
