Blockbuster Trailers

After years of rumors, leaked set images, and the possibility that the entire project could have fallen apart, the highly anticipated Barbie movie is nearing its official release.

A first-look trailer and a few movie posters with some pretty big names just hit the internet, and the web is buzzing. It was already known that Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling would be starring as Barbie and Ken but even more starpower was revealed.

Alternate versions of Barbie who got the spotlight: Dua Lipa, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Emma Makey, Hari Nef and Alexandra Shipp. Meanwhile, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans have been tapped to play variations of the Ken doll.

While plot details have been guarded, a peek at the trailer suggests the plastic world and the real world might clash at some point.

Meanwhile, a new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also dropped. The second installment in the animated project about the spider-powered Miles Morales from Sony is due for a June 2 release, and the film is more of the interdimensional hijinks Marvel fans saw in the original Into the Spider-Verse and more recently in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

This time, Morales is thrusted into the multiverse where he finds all the spider-people variants who eventually end up at odds. Shameik Moore reprises his role as the lead alongside returning voices Hailee Steinfeld and Jake Johnson. Oscar Isaac, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, and Issa Rae also lend their voices.

More Shrek?

Also in new movies news, the Shrek franchise may be expanding with more projects in the works. Chris Meledandri, CEO and founder of computer animation studio Illumination, wants Shrek 5 the original cast of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy, to get done.

In an interview with Variety, he said negotiations with the stars were going well and that story was being developed. In January, Eddie Murphy revealed that he would be open to doing a spinoff movie featuring Donkey, and it looks like that could be coming to fruition as well.

"It's evidence of his strong enthusiasm for a role that he so brilliantly inhabited and really created alongside the artists at DreamWorks. I found that comment to be very exciting," said Meledandri.

Harry Potter Reboot

Harry Potter fans should whip out their wands and cast a spell if they want HBO Max to pick up a project in the boy wizard's name. Warner Bros. Discovery is close to making a deal to bring a new series to the streaming platform.

The show would be a reboot of the wizarding adventures that had already been covered in the movies series starring Daniel Radcliffe. Apparently each season would be taken from a different book in J.K. Rowling's original book series.

The decision seems to be in the hands of Rowling who would also have some creative power in the direction of the project, despite an ongoing backlash over her views on transgender issues.
