According to Kayak’s 2018 Travel Hacker Guide, January and February and other “shoulder seasons” are the cheapest times for domestic travel. “We always say that sometimes the best time to take a summer vacation is in September, if you can wait that long,” said David Solomito, Kayak’s vice president of marketing. “The prices go down, the crowds thin out, so typically for travel September is a great month to look at as well.” Kayak studied over 1.5 billion searches on the site to find the most-coveted destinations. And if you’re itching to get away from the cold, you may be happy to know that the top wallet-friendly travel spot was Guadalajara, Mexico. “It’s actually an emerging destination,” Solomito said. “There’s a tequila train that will take you out to Tequila Country. You can do tequila tasting.
