French President Emmanuel Macron has called the mission to promote gender equality and end violence against women his "great cause." And only a few months into his five-year term, the country’s Secretary of State for Gender Equality is seeing progress. "He decided to send women everywhere in France to run for elections, and thanks to that, we've doubled the number of women in Parliament," Marlene Schiappa told Cheddar. A politician and longtime ally of Macron, Schiappa works closely with the president to further women's rights in France. She says these efforts are top priorities for the government. Schiappa was in New York participating in the Women in Corporate Leadership Initiative. The event brought together women from around the world to discuss ways to increase the number of women in the corporate world.
