Deana Martin Is a Throwback Singing Her Dad's Hits
Deana Martin's musical show is inspired by and a tribute to her father, the legendary entertainer Dean Martin.
When music fans meet her, Deana said they often remark, "My god, you're just like your dad, only smaller!"
Deana Martin, 69, will perform many of her father's best-known songs in her show, "Deana Sings Dino," at Lorenzo's in Staten Island on Friday, April 20. The show sold out in advance.
"I want to bring new memories to people, and bring old memories too," said Martin in an interview with Cheddar on Tuesday. She's proud to represent the Martin name, she added.
Deana Martin has been around music as long as she can remember. Her father was a singer, actor, comedian, and producer who performed with Jerry Lewis and was a member of Frank Sinatra's famed Rat Pack in the 1950s and 60s.
She said she is excited to see the ways the entertainment industry is changing, but wonders if some up-and-coming performers are moving too fast.
Younger artists at the beginning of their careers should pay their dues, she said, and perform in local shows to practice as much as possible before storming the big stage.
