Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald stepped down from her post one day after Politico reported her investment in Japan Tobacco Inc. A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement that Fitzgerald was unable to divest in a definitive period of time and the department's secretary accepts her resignation.
