The East Coast is getting hit by a major snowstorm. The weather event is being called a "bomb cyclone." Andrew Freedman is a Science Editor at Mashable and he joins Cheddar to explain why the storm is so strong and what will continue to happen.
Freedman explains that surprising places have been hit with a lot of snow. South Carolina is seeing nearly 6 inches and snow has fallen as far south as Tallahassee, Florida.
In terms of how the storm got so intense so quickly, Freedman explains how the weather movements and winds needed to work together to make this happen. Simply put, Arctic air mixed with subtropical air over near-record warm Atlantic Ocean water helped created the explosive storm.
For the future of this storm, temperatures will continue to drop and stay low.
