Apple has apologized for slowing down older iPhones and temporarily dropped prices for a replacement battery, but will it be enough to make customers happy? Zac Hall, Editor at 9to5Mac joins Cheddar to discuss.
The tech company said it issued a software update that slowed down older phones in some situations to extend battery life. Along with Apple's apology, the company also promised a new iOS update to fix the software issues. Hall says this blunder is worse than 2010's "antenna-gate", in which iPhone 4 users had issues with dropped calls.
In addition, Hall makes a few predictions on when the HomePod will be available for purchase and new phones on the docket for 2018. He talks about what investors are looking for in 2018 and how Apple will continue to dominate the tech space.
TikTok recently announced that it is testing a paid subscription model. The news comes days after Instagram publicized a similar service. TikTok has made $2.3 billion from in-app purchases, but mostly through tips, in 2021, showing that its users may be open to spending money on the platform.
Netflix beat its earnings projections for Q4 — but the stock still plummeted as the streaming pioneer cut back on its forecast for future subscribers. Connected cars software development platform Smartcar announced this week it has raised $24 million in a Series B round led by Energize Ventures. Smartcar's software can be integrated into mobile and web apps from mobility businesses. It allows users to do things like locate and unlock a vehicle, as well as check its mileage, fuel level, and battery if the vehicle is electric. Smartcar's technology is compatible with 22 different vehicle brands in 31 different countries. Smartcar co-founder and CEO Sahas Katta joined Cheddar News' Closing Bell to discuss.
