Anna Akana Talks Working With Hollywood Heavyweights While Building Online Empire
Anna Akana is the executive producer and star of a new YouTube Red series, which she brought to life alongside producing powerhouse Mark Gordon. The digital media star sits down with Alyssa Julya Smith at Cheddar's WeWork studio in Los Angeles to talk about the new 30-minute, teen dramady series “Youth & Consequences,” which premieres in March 2018.
Akana tells us how the series follows her character, a powerful teen trendsetter Farrah Cutney, the queen of Central Rochester High. She says it's all about the balance of power, and how even in high school, that game can become brutal.
Akana explains that the series has complex characters and she wanted to make sure to tell a story with characters who were not just one-dimensional.
She also discusses how her sister's death has impacted her life, and the type of content she wants to bring to viewers. The online star has built her online empire, and is now starting to work with some of television's most sought-after producers to continue to expand her body of work.
