The housing market is in a state of flux, but people are setting their sights on one place in particular: Sacramento. A recent report by Redfin found that California’s capital was the most searched for destination for homebuyers planning to move between October 2023 and December 2023.
Redfin’s migration analysis was developed from the search results of about two million Redfin.com users who looked at homes in more than 100 metro areas across the United States. The “inbound” data was calculated by adding the number of home searchers looking to relocate there, minus the number of searchers planning to leave. Sacramento’s score was 5,400, making it a standout among the other competitive metro areas rounding out the top five. Las Vegas tied with two Florida metros (Cape Coral and Sarasota) for the second position with a score of 4,100, followed by Orlando at 3,600.
The same report shared details about the “outbound” metros, or spots where people are trying to move away from. In a similar way, the total was determined by taking the number of people hoping to leave and subtracting the number of searchers interested in moving there. Los Angeles was the “winner” here, with a net outflow score of 26,900. The other high-ranking metros were San Francisco (25,900), New York (24,900), Seattle (16,700), and Washington, DC (13,000).

Compared to all other states, California was the place where most people considered leaving. More than 46,000 California residents searched for metros outside of the state. This also comes at a time when California home prices increased by 7.4 percent year-over-year in December, and the number of homes sold dropped by 6.1 percent.

Huntington Bancshares Inc. reported Q3 earnings today. The bank holding company delivered a record $1.7 billion in revenue, but saw some pressure on its bottom line. The company says results were driven by its recent acquisition of TCF bank, as well as positive trends in areas like wealth management, capital markets, and card and payments processing. CEO John Merris stopped by Cheddar's "Closing Bell" to talk about the decision behind the IPO and the company's experience in direct-to-consumer retail and e-commerce. Merris said that after going public the immediate goal for the company is to focus on overseas expansion. "Internationally, there's been a lot of demand and chatter from our customers of wanting us to launch there," he said.

The CEO at Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotick apologized to employees after the company had been rocked by the public airing of sexual harassment claims that went unchecked. Kotick also asked that his compensation of more than $150 million be slashed to just over $62,000.

The latest Google smartphone comes with an upgraded camera visor that holds three cameras in place as well as Gorilla Glass Victus covering the front and back protecting against drops and scratches. The device also contains Google's first homemade processor chip called Tensor and retails for about $899.
Overstock CEO Jonathan Johnson joined Cheddar's "Opening Bell" to talk about the company's Q3 earnings beat. While supply chain issues have plagued businesses across industries, Johnson noted that the company largely avoided constraints by not pressuring suppliers to fill Overstock's own distribution centers, encouraging them to use their own. "We have a higher in-stock percentage today than we did a year ago. Not quite as high as we did pre-pandemic but better than it was last year at this time," he said.
