New Film Friday

The weekend has rolled around once again, and if you plan on staying indoors to catch up on some TV watching, Cheddar News has you covered with our weekly What to Stream column. If you're looking to get out of the house, however, consider hitting up the movie theater. There's a slate of new films available today.

Perhaps one of the most-anticipated movies of the year is Fast X. The Family is once again linking up for another mission, but this time it's taking on the biggest threat they've faced in the franchise — played by Jason Momoa. Also, making a comeback to the franchise is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, reprising his role as Hobbs.

Buddy Games: Spring Awakening also hits theaters. The sequel to the 2019 comedy sees the gang reunited to celebrate a lost friend, and somehow they end up at Spring Break, the place where their hilarious friendship first sparked. Watch as the "old schoolers" party hard and try to compete with the college kids of today.

Ok so this next suggestion isn't in theaters, but it is a new project — sort of. The White Men Can't Jump reboot is currently streaming on Hulu. Rapper Jack Harlow takes on the role of Jeremy, a one-time hoops star whose injuries derailed his potential to make it to the big league, and actor Sinqua Walls is Kamal, whose own hoop dreams faded due to family tragedy. The two meet and find they had more in common than they previously thought.

Indiana Jones and the Festival at Cannes

Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. The 80-year-old actor showed up at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to debut the latest film in his iconic franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which will be his final time taking on the role of the fedora-wearing archaeologist. Ahead of the premiere, Ford was awarded with an honorary Palme d'Or and was brought to tears as the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

"I'm very moved by this. They say when you're about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes — a great part of my life, but not all of my life," Ford said about the honor.

The film is set for a theatrical release on June 30.

Lizzo's Simpson Sunday

The Simpsons is wrapping up its 34th season this Sunday, and it's getting some major popstar treatment for this latest send off. Hitmaker Lizzo is set to appear in the finale, which also happens to be the long-running show's 750th episode.

After going viral for dressing up as Marge Simpson during Halloween last year, she's been tapped to play herself and a character called Goobie Woo. The singing flutist flexes her skills in an iconic collaboration with Lisa Simpson, who is known to blow a tune or two on her saxophone.

"I don't know a world without The Simpsons. It is just synonymous with living," Lizzo told USA TODAY. "I love that The Simpsons allowed as much flute as possible."
