Dollar General workers and labor advocates on Wednesday gathered outside the company's headquarters to voice concerns over safety and health protections. The protest comes ahead of the company's annual shareholder meeting. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited unsafe conditions at numerous dollar general stores in recent years, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive. Since 2014, there have been 49 reported deaths and 172 injuries at Dollar General stores.
The national average for gas prices stood at about $3.78 a gallon on Tuesday — about 25 cents higher than that seen one month ago, according to motor club AAA. While today's prices at the pump remain far lower than they were last year, when energy costs soared worldwide in the months following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, experts say such a jump is unusual.
