Underrepresentation of women in key media roles has been a consistent theme throughout the years. The discrepancy has been even more pronounced among minorities. Victorian chats about the biggest challenges of being part of a minority-run publication. Victorian said a big challenge is advertising. Competition is stiff, and they don't typically have the same funding as large corporations such as Vice and Complex.
Moreno weighed in by saying minority work has never been more important due to the current political climate.
Latinos made up just 3% of speaking roles in the top 100 films in 2016, despite making up about 26% of the U.S. population. Moreno said Latinos are holding up the movie industry. She said 1 in 4 movie tickets are bought by Latinos. Not only isn't it insulting, she said, but it's also bad business.
The actor Jonathan Majors was arrested Saturday in New York on charges of strangulation, assault and harassment, authorities said. On Sunday, an attorney for Majors said there's evidence that he is “entirely innocent."
