*By Amanda Weston* YouTube wants to keep its creators happy, and the video streaming site is offering top influencers major money to do it. Mike Shields, the Business Insider advertising editor who [broke the story](https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-pays-stars-big-money-instagram-igtv-2018-7), said the payouts can get into six figuresーsometimes even crossing the $1 million mark. In exchange for the cash, creators are not bound by exclusivity, but rather, are obligated to upload new content to YouTube beforeーor at the same momentーthey post to other platforms. That could work to the benefit of publishers. While many Internet starsーlike 2017's top earner [DanTDM](https://www.youtube.com/user/TheDiamondMinecart/about), who [reportedly](https://www.businessinsider.com/highest-paid-youtube-stars-2017-12) brought in $16.5 million last yearーowe a large percentage of their fan base to YouTube, Shields told Cheddar their loyalties may be divided. "If you're those stars, it's, 'Do I take a check from Google and stick around? But then I might miss out on this thing that becomes humongous and all my fans go there,'" said Shields. "So there's that fear." One big threat: Instagram's newly-launched IGTV, which can capitalize on the platform's 500 million daily active users. "I think there's a talent war going on right now," said Shields. "You might see it from Facebook with Watch. You might see it from Twitch a little bit. IGTV needs to get off the ground. Instagram's obviously a huge platform. So I think you're going to see a lot of talent being tempted." Though YouTube said there's been no change in policy. "We have no new initiative in place," a YouTube representative told [Business Insider](https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-pays-stars-big-money-instagram-igtv-2018-7). "We have always invested in our creators' success and will continue to do so to ensure they have a great experience and can find continued growth and opportunity on YouTube."
