How One Teacher Safeguarded 65 People During Parkland Shooting
Stories of heroism inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The mass shooting killed 17 people, and inured many others. Culinary Instructor Ashley Kurth describes the scene inside the high school, and how she was able to shepherd 65 students inside a classroom during the attack.
"I just started pulling kids in that were running past--who didn't know where to go," described Kurth. "It was a terrifying experience." Ultimately Kurth was able to secure 65 people into the room. She says she was prepared for a situation like this, and had been through a live active shooter drill in the past.
"There has to be better gun laws put in place," says Kurth. "I have been a Republican for my whole life and I'm saddened by the state of the way things are."
