*By Hope King* President Trump has lashed out grotesquely at many journalists, among the most severe examples was what he said about Mika Brzezinski last summer. Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," however, shrugs off his actions. "His attacks don't bother me," Brzezinski told Cheddar Thursday evening. "In the grand scheme of things, it's not really a big deal." In a series of tweets last June, President Trump described her as "[low I.Q. Crazy Mika](https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/880408582310776832)" and claimed she once looked like she had been "[bleeding badly from a face-lift](https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/880410114456465411)" at a social gathering. Brzezinski responded almost immediately, first [tweeting a photo](https://twitter.com/morningmika/status/880415526371176448) of a Cheerios box with the words "Made for Little Hands" ー a reference to an insult lobbed by Sen. Marco Rubio during the 2016 debates. She also wrote a [Washington Post op-ed](https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/donald-trump-is-not-well/2017/06/30/97759ee0-5d0f-11e7-9b7d-14576dc0f39d_story.html?utm_term=.536beccbf47c) and went back on-air the next day. "I wasn't supposed to be on," Brzezinski said. "But I said to management, 'We need to go on the air. I'm going to respond.'" When asked what she planned to say, Brzezinski said her response was, "I got it. I *got* it." [On-air](https://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/watch/joe-for-some-reason-he-goes-after-mika-980339267547?v=railb&), Brzezinski said the past day had been "fascinating and frightening and really sad for our country." "I've been getting a lot of texts and hearing you all talking ー thank you, I'm fine," Brzezinski said to her roundtable of anchors and hosts. "My family brought me up really tough, this is absolutely nothing...for me personally." Family had been at the top of her mind. Her father, former U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, had died a month earlier. "I \[had\] just lost my best friend to pancreatic cancer," Brzezinski told Cheddar Thursday. "That's just the beginning ... I really don't care about the president's tweets ー I'm good." Perspective is one of the three tools Brzezinski said she uses when she comes under attack. The other two? "Humor, raw honesty." "No, I didn't get a facelift. I did get a chin tuck, and I think it looks really good," Brzezinski said, pointing to her face and looking at the camera. "And I was kind of being funny, but I'm actually serious ー I think it looks pretty good." She paused to laugh before finishing with, "And that's just honesty."
