FoodieTrip wants you to eat like a local, no matter where you are in the world. The New York based start-up is the first peer-to-peer marketplace that connects travelers with local food guides all around the globe. FoodieTrip is in 115 international cities, and tours range from speakeasy adventures in New York City and exploring the local dumpling scene in Xian. Matan Magril is the CEO of FoodieTrip, and he joins Cheddar to explain how his business is growing. Magril was excited to start the company after falling in love with the local cuisine in Vietnam. He felt that every traveler should have the opportunity to eat like a local and explore unique and authentic cuisine when they travel. With experiential travel on the rise, he may be onto something. Skift estimates that culinary tourism will hit $170 billion annually by 2020.

From Hibiscus to Ube Cheesecake: Celebrating National Doughnut Day
Today is National Doughnut Day! Cheddar News celebrated with Steven Klein, the owner of Dough Doughnuts in New York City, who joined us with some delicious samples from hibiscus flavored to ube cheesecake. "It's a fun fest that people love doughnuts, and it's a way of celebrating doughnuts that people just want to try, and they want to try with their friends, their offices, their parties, their groups," said Klein. "So we get inundated in all our stores with lines of people coming to buy multiple doughnuts to celebrate the day."

Mint House Raises $35 Million to Transform Hospitality
Tech-enabled residential hospitality company Mint House recently raised $35 million in a Series B round led by Mohari Hospitality. Mint House was described by one of its backers as 'the best of a hotel without the worst of a hotel, and the best of an Airbnb without the worst of an Airbnb.' Mint House offers apartment-style lodging across the country. The company claims its spaces combine the comfort of a home with the luxury of a hotel in order to give guests all of the perks and none of the tradeoffs. Fintech Acrisure Closes $725 Million Equity Funding, Valuing Business at $23 Billion
Fintech company Acrisure recently raised $725 million in a new funding led by a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, bringing the company's valuation to $23 billion. Acrisure offers financial solutions including insurance, reinsurance, real estate services, cyber services, and asset management. The company says its financial solutions are powered by the best of human and artificial intelligence.
